National Geographic. The March cover story is on animal intelligence. I sent Irene Pepperberg of Brandeis University my September 2005 TDH item on Peter, the psychic macaw. Pepperberg runs The Alex Foundation named after her African Grey parrot Alex, who
died at the age of 31 in 2007. Dr. Pepperberg’s (pictured) pioneering research resulted in Alex learning elements of English speech to identify 50 different objects, 7 colors, 5 shapes, quantities up to and including 6 and a zero-like concept. The Alex Foundation Home Page
Macaw Peter demonstrated to me that he was self-aware. A service bird, Peter provides his owner Grant Jenks with from 2 to 5 hours notice of pending medical emergencies.
Grant told me that Peter enjoys The Animal Channel, understands everything, initiates conversations, plays sophisticated games, gets emotional at sad movies, irritable at violence on TV, blushes, and doesn’t get along with his pre-teen daughter. One day Grant heard Peter “arguing” with his son Ashton. What were they arguing about? Ashton found a stray cat and Peter got attached to it. They were fighting over who the cat belonged to. I walked over to Peter, who was nestled protectively on Grant’s shoulder, and whispered: “Peter, who does “Sweetie the Cat” belong to?” He said: “It’s mine.”
Grant told me that Peter can sense “negative” people and gets riled up when he comes within 200 feet of someone with a dark aura. Grant’s daughter told me Peter has the run of their home, is messy, and is not house-trained but was learning how to use a toilet. She also said, “Don’t get one!”
The Government is now working with macaws since they are found to have very complex thought patterns and will be able to read in the future.

CATS LOOKING FOR LOVING HOMES.
2 cats looking for new homes where we will receive more attention than we currently get. We were left with Dan in a divorce. We are both around 14 and are pretty healthy at our age. Dan is away from home too much and would like us to have humans around more often.
My name is Avalon. I get along with everyone including animals. I am very affectionate and love attention (sometimes I beg for it), however should be an outdoor cat as I have had an issue for the last couple of years with leaving my mark indoors. I would make for a great barn cat as long as you have a place I can keep warm in the winter.
Natasha is much shyer than me, while getting to know you however she is very loving and affectionate after a short time. She seems to do best as an only cat and is slightly intimidated by being outside. She would love to live with someone indoors who would give her lots of affection.
If you have room for either one of us in a safe loving environment please contact Dan so you can meet us. We live in Marysville. Thank you.

My Cat: Erte`
There once was a cat
That sat on my lap
And took a nap
He was all striped and cute
But he thought he was a tiger, dog or a brute
But I knew he was lovely as an angle playing the flute
I took him home
My back yard he would roam
“King of the jungle” he would play – Here is my throne!
He would jump on the dogs
And chase frogs
That would croak and make noises like hogs
He would sleep on my chest
Every time we would rest
Turning my blankets into his little nest
We would make the perfect team
Together we would snore & dream
About: eating cookies & cream
This little cat is my baby: I have to say
I love him very much: His name is Erte`
And he is still with me: this very day.

Or will the little Cat named "Angel" allow it this year?
